“Today is International Women’s Day. It’s a day to celebrate the achievements of women and support action against gender inequality. And we want to highlight a remarkable woman in our community. 95-year-old Frances Massey has been doing textiles for more than 75 years. In fact, she was the first female textile professor in the College of Textiles at NC State University. The Sampson County native has an impressive resume. Graduated from ECU, she became a home economics teacher, later pursuing her graduate degree in textiles and in science. And clearly, she knows what to do with textiles. A fabulous woman indeed.”
